Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then located multiple other vandalized cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests show the liquid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; officials are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.
An important representative stated the incident rendered him without words and required to be solved rapidly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, recalling the killing of nine people by a shooter focusing on individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
